IPE Colloquium™ Outcome Statement 2025

Breaking boundaries: Education as an enabler of trust in healthcare

This statement is a public commitment to recognise and advance trust as the foundation of high-quality, collaborative health and social care.

In an increasingly complex health landscape, the trust of the public in health and social care professionals, and of professionals in one another, is critical. Trust shapes how we educate, how we collaborate, and how we care.

We acknowledge that:

  • Education is not only a tool for knowledge transmission, but also a powerful enabler of trust between health professionals and with the communities they serve.
  • Interprofessional education strengthens understanding across roles, enhances mutual respect, and improves patient outcomes.
  • Students are not just learners, but co-creators of a future healthcare system that is collaborative, inclusive, and trustworthy.
  • Patients and consumers bring vital perspectives that help ensure trustworthiness in care delivery and education.

We commit to:

  • Embedding interprofessional learning throughout health education as a core mechanism for building trust between professions.
  • Recognising and amplifying student voices in shaping curricula and learning environments.
  • Educating future professionals to be trustworthy sources of knowledge, action, and advocacy – building on shared examples from immunisation, professional identity formation, scope of practice, and planetary health.
  • Promoting respectful collaboration across professions, sectors, and communities, guided by evidence, empathy, and equity.
  • Through this vision, we strive to transform health professions education into a catalyst for a more connected, trustworthy, and responsive health and social care system.
